Varso Tower Run this weekend

September 14, 2023

This Saturday, September 16, runners will once again face the stairs of the tallest building in the European Union. A total of 800 amateurs, world-class athletes and invited guests will take part in the event, under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski. To reach the finish line at the top of the Varso Tower, they will have to climb 53 floors, i.e. almost 1,400 stairs and a total of 230 meters up. The route record is 7 minutes and 27 seconds.

The second edition of Varso Tower Run is an opportunity for anyone willing to repeat last year's feat, beat their record or take up this unusual sports challenge for the first time. The competitors will run at 10:00, and the sports elite will start at 13:45. The closing ceremony and decoration of the winners is scheduled for 14:30.

A year ago, Poles triumphed in Varso Tower. With a time of 7 minutes and 27 seconds, the fastest was the titled towerrunner Piotr Łobodziński, and Paweł Ruszała needed only 9 seconds more. They will both try to beat last year's result, but their ambitious plans will be challenged by rivals from several European countries, Malaysia and Japan, from the top of the Towerrunning World Association ranking.

I could not run in Varso Tower last year.

I am glad to take up that running event this time. The goal is to win and break last year's route record by Piotr Łobodziński,

– announces the current leader of the world ranking Wai Ching Soh from Malaysia, who holds the Guinness record for the height climbed on the stairs in 1 hour.

I hope that I will improve my time and

it will allow me to stand on the top step of the podium again. Summer was a good time to prepare. Starting in mountain runs and a few good, intense training sessions on stairs should bear fruit during this race. I will be ready for pain needed to fight against the tallest building in the European Union.

Invited guests who will also participate in the race include an Olympic athlete and Polish representative in the 400m hurdles Emilia Ankiewicz-Obukowicz, world champion in kickboxing and boxing Iwona Guzowska and an architect from the Foster + Partners studio, which designed Varso Tower. Close to 100 participants have joined from among the office employees working in the building.

The success of the first edition of Varso Tower Run made this year's event very popular.

Over two hundred more people will climb the stairs of our skyscraper this time. A strong line-up of athletes and amateurs will certainly provide a lot of excitement. Apart from sports competition, the race also has a charitable purpose. We are supporting the Polish Humanitarian Action with a donation for people affected by the war in Ukraine and will donate PLN 40,000,

– says Katarzyna Najdzik from HB Reavis, company which developed Varso Tower.

Each runner will get a medal and a commemorative t-shirt. On top of the satisfaction of conquering the tallest building in the European Union, an additional reward are breathtaking views from the rooftops of the skyscraper. Apart from the elite athletes, awards will also be awarded in the Open classification for women and men. The best runners will receive financial and material prizes as well as points in the world ranking. Similar runs take place in landmark skyscrapers, such as: Empire State Building, Taipei 101 or the Eiffel Tower.

The sponsors of the event organized by HB Reavis include CMS law firm, PZU Zdrowie, NYX Hotel Warsaw, CIC Warsaw and the Zdrofit fitness clubs. More information at: www.wbiegnijnavarso.pl.
